School for Living Futures Video Media Internship

Timeline

2024

This internship ran from August 2024 to May 2025.

Description

Affiliated programs: Green Devils Intern Program and School for Living Futures

Summary

The School for Living Futures is an interdisciplinary, experimental organization in Durham dedicated to creating new knowledge and possibility for our climate-changed future. These Green Devil interns supported The School for Living Futures by creating an engaging public archive of video and digital resources and developing materials for social media to highlight SfLF events.

Goal

1. Develop the archive of video content and other digital resources to make it more engaging and accessible to the public

2. Create social media content about climate and culture events and programming, especially highlighting books, ideas, and artists that align with SfLF ethos

Experience and Learning Outcomes

This project was part of the year-long paid internship Green Devils program managed by the Office of Climate and Sustainability. The intern worked directly with the SfLF to strategically publicize climate and sustainability events at a local, national, and international level. The intern gained skills in content development and editing along with how to design messaging for a wide and diverse audience.

Recommendations

The student interns suggest that future work should focus on continuing to expand audience reach. Specifically, considering how to enhance marketing techniques to reach individuals not yet engaged in the climate and sustainability space.

Student Interns: Yurina Shirai and Kemi Diver

Intern Supervisor: Sarah Rose Nordgren, Founding Director of The School for Living Futures
