The Trillium Faculty Workshop and the Trillium Student Research Initiative (TSRI) at Duke work to educate faculty about sustainability education and to incorporate sustainability in the syllabi of existing courses. These programs have interacted with many departments, but neither program has successfully recruited faculty members who teach large classes.

The CAIRNS program implements their “creating community & belonging” value by producing organic settings to meet and bond with potential mentors.

This project team seeked to find the best ways for an environmental diversity mentoring program to serve undergraduate needs. In 2019, the Nicholas School of the Environment (NSOE) identified the need to increase diversity in undergraduate programming and responded by forming the NSOE Career and Academic Innovation and Research Network of Scholars (CAIRNS) Program.

Our project team's goal was to help map Duke University's ongoing initiatives and organizations to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), research other institutions' policies concerning the SDGs, and provide recommendations that could help Duke implement the SDGs in its operations in the future as effectively as possible.

The Hub Farm is a 52-acre farm in north Durham, dedicated to “...improving the academic achievement and well-being of students in Durham Public Schools through experiential outdoor learning.” More than an agricultural waypoint, the Hub Farm enables community engagement in core social, environmental, and economic aspects of sustainability.
