Executive Director of Climate and Sustainability 

As Executive Director of Duke University’s Office of Climate and Sustainability, Tavey co-leads the Duke Climate Commitment strategic planning and implementation with the goal of infusing climate and sustainability into all parts of the University mission – teaching, research, operations, external engagement and community partnerships. She serves as the principal advisor, thought partner, and chief internal operations officer for the Vice President and Vice Provost for Climate and Sustainability on strategic planning and promoting the OCS mission to a wide array of internal and external audiences. Tavey is also responsible for daily oversight of the OCS core team, integration and cohesion across the OCS units, and strategic oversight of the Climate Commitment Advisory Council. Tavey holds a BA in Environmental Policy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has over two decades of experience in higher education sustainability. Prior to joining Duke’s sustainability program in 2006, she led sustainability and waste reduction efforts at NC State University and UNC-Greensboro.
