Overview

Goods and materials are a critical component for the university to function, and the power to purchase these items is spread across faculty, staff and students. Sustainable purchasing considers sustainable values in these decisions and considers the circularity of the items brought on to campus.

Highlights

• OCS developed a Sustainable SWAG guide to support individuals purchasing promotional items or giveaways for events. 
   
• Duke’s Procurement and Supply Chain office supports Duke purchasers to make environmentally responsible choices through their Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Guidelines. 
   
• Duke Store played a role in the creation of the first living wage apparel factory and has made Duke's graduation more sustainable through the use of gowns made of recycled plastic.
