Community Work Days
We open our gates every Thursday and Sunday from 3-5pm for community workdays. No experience or Duke affiliation is necessary. We plan with first-timers in mind. Follow Duke Campus Farm on Facebook to keep up with weather cancellations.
What to Expect
A typical workday might include hauling mulch or compost, pulling or using hand tools to remove weeds, and building compost piles. Harvesting produce is not part of our regular workday routine, but volunteers often take home a taste of what’s in season.
We ask all volunteers to please wear weather-appropriate clothes and to bring a reusable water bottle.
We do ask that groups larger than 5 notify us of their plans to attend at least 24 hours prior to workday starting. We ask groups larger than 10 to inquire at least 2 weeks in advance so we can ensure your group the best possible volunteering experience. Student groups (i.e. sororities, student clubs) who wish to arrange larger volunteering outings should reach out to us early in the semester to reserve a workday date. We prefer groups no larger than 30 in total at community workday.
We ask adults to accompany volunteers under age 14.
