OVERVIEW
Duke is a sought-out convener, known for purposeful partnerships for positive societal impact to address climate and sustainability challenges. The Duke Climate Commitment has outlined the following goals for external engagement:
- Bring more experts and organizations to Duke to build long-term partnerships for impact.
- Leverage Duke’s climate and sustainability expertise beyond the university.
- Increase and gain more recognition for Duke’s climate and sustainability expertise and societal impact.
- Seed new research and programmatic collaborations in partnership with outside experts, industry partners, and thought leaders.
Through collaboration with partners at Duke and leaders from across the globe, the Office of Climate and Sustainability supports Duke's Climate Commitment external engagement pillar through the implementation and strategic support of signature programming including the Climate Leaders in Residence program, engaging with national and international convenings including New York Climate Week, participating in high-impact climate and sustainability networks, and supporting the Climate Commitment Advisory Council's external engagement subcommittee.
Signature Climate and Sustainability Programs
The Office of Climate and Sustainability leads or supports a variety of programs and events hosted by Duke University including the Climate Leaders in Residence (CLIR), Climate Collaboration Symposia, From Billions to Trillions, and an annual Climate and Sustainability summit.
Climate and Sustainability Networks
The Office of Climate and Sustainability participates in many climate- and sustainability-focused networks including the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, the International Sustainable Campus Network, the Ivy+ Sustainability Collaborative, the Green Sports Alliance, and many more.
