EVENT: Anna Lappe: Cheeseburgers, Cheetos, and the Climate
WHEN: Saturday, February 6, 11:00AM
WHERE: Sandford 04
The era of climate-change deniers may (almost) be behind us, but a new battle has just begun. As we grapple with global warming, we face increasing controversies over which industries are most responsible for emissions and which policies will most help us mitigate the crisis. In these heated debates, the food industry has so far managed to stay out of the climate-change hot seat. Most of us don't think about our lunch when we think about global warming. Yet the food system is responsible for as much as third of all emissions. In this engaging talk, Anna explains the connection between the food on our plate and global warming and how communities around the world are working together to bring to life a sustainable food system that is healthier for people and the planet.
Anna Lappe is a celebrated author and food activist, and this weekend she will talk about food policy, especially her new book with an introduction by Bill McKibben, Diet for a Hot Planet: The climate crisis at the end of your fork and what you can do about it.
Anna is also a leader of the Small Planet Institute (http://www.smallplanet.org/) and has written other books including Grub: Ideas for an Urban Organic Kitchen, and Hope's Edge: The next diet for a small planet.
Charlotte Clark, a Nicholas School Professor, will introduce Anna Lappe.
