Green Dining Award
Each year since 2010, students in Sustainable Duke’s Students for Sustainable Living program have selected winning eateries to be recognized with a Green Dining Award at Duke. Students meet with the managers of each campus eatery to perform an environmental audit of food served and eatery operations. The winning eateries are presented with a bamboo plaque at the annual PACE awards. Awards are determined using this scorecard, which includes criteria such as use of local food, educational outreach about sustainable food elements and composting to reduce landfill waste.
Award categories have been changed for the 2010-2011 academic year in order to recognize the different types of eateries on campus and reward innovation.
Throughout the academic year, leading up to the awards, students also offer their time and expertise to help eateries with any additional greening measures they would like to undertake. Eateries can contact sustainability@duke.edu if they are interested in this assistance.
